Take a Virtual Tour of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

Our Jessup apartments are close to some of the most renowned museums in the world. Just half an hour away, the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History has been captivating the world with prehistoric exhibits since they opened in 1910. Now, they’ve created a full 3D virtual tour that puts their full museum at your fingertips. Our favorite exhibits include:

Hall of Fossils

Maybe the most famous exhibit on display at the museum, the Hall of Fossils tells the story of the world starting billions of years in the past. This exhibit has over 700 fossils on display, including full dinosaur skeletons. Through the virtual tour, you can explore the entire exhibit and see these fossils up close. The Hall of Fossils also highlights creatures throughout a time that you might have never even heard of. Check out our favorite, the giant ground sloth, which truly is a giant.

African Voices

Dedicated to showing the influence that Africa has had on human history as a whole, African Voices is another exhibit you can virtually tour. They have over 400 artifacts in the exhibit, and they showcase the art, culture, and daily life of groups in Africa throughout history. Through the virtual museum experience, you can even “walk” through a traditional Somali home and Ghanaian market.

Hall of Human Origins

Watch as human society develops in front of your very eyes in the Hall of Human Origins. Serving as a timeline of evolution, this exhibit features fossils of early humans that show changes over time. Some of their most famous are the Stone Age displays. They showcase the tools, art, and beliefs of some of the earliest groups of people. It’s another great exhibit to explore from home.

These are just a few of the exhibits that you can see through this virtual tour of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
