A local fixture since 1797, the Maryland Science Center is one of the country’s oldest scientific institutions. Today, it welcomes thousands of visitors every year and offers plenty of fun for everyone. The science center is about 20 minutes from our Jessup apartments and offers exhibits like:

St. John Properties IMAX Theater

Boasting the biggest indoor screen in Maryland, the St. John Properties IMAX Theater offers a movie-going experience unlike any other. It comes complete with a five-story screen, a surround sound system, brighter images, and true stadium seating. You can add a show to your admission ticket for just $2.00.

Davis Planetarium

At the Davis Planetarium, day turns into night. As the lights go down, thousands of stars and planets appear overhead. The shows run about 25 to 30 minutes, and current offerings include Solar Superstorm, We Are Aliens, and Summer Sky Live

SpaceLink

Step into SpaceLink to enjoy some out-of-this-world fun. This fascinating exhibit features a newsroom, discovery room, and media center, highlighting the latest happenings in space and aerospace science. During your visit, you can create a crater, try on a spacesuit, watch live mission launches, and more. In addition, you can chat with the SpaceLink staff and learn about the experiments conducted by NASA rovers.

Adult Programs

Don’t miss the center’s adult programs. The staff infuses science into every event, and you can spend a fun-filled evening enjoying demonstrations and hands-on activities. Other highlights may include sipping refreshing cocktails and taking part in exciting photo opportunities.

In addition to the Maryland Science Center, you can also explore old homes and more around Jessup. To become a resident of The Elms at Shannon’s Glen, please contact our leasing team. They’d love to offer a tour where you can see all that our apartments near Columbia, MD, have to offer.
