Just 26 minutes from our Jessup apartments, Bromo Arts and Entertainment District is a vibrant destination that supports and advances artistic and cultural organizations in downtown Baltimore.

Home to over 30 galleries, music venues, and theaters, highlights include:

Arena Players

Established in 1953, Arena Players is the country’s oldest, continuously operating African American community theater. Its mission is to educate and entertain the Baltimore community while nurturing artists. The current season includes The Piano Lesson directed by Russell Owens. Set in the 1930s, it tells the story of Boy Willie, who decides to sell a piano that holds a unique place in his family’s history. Mark your calendar for opening day on March 13, 2020.

Eubie Blake National Jazz & Cultural Center

The Eubie Blake National Jazz & Cultural Center brings artists and audiences together. As one of the city’s premier arts destinations, it develops and promotes fun events and educational opportunities. The center is named after Eubie Blake, who was born in Baltimore in 1887. He became passionate about music at a young age when he first played his family’s pump organ. He went on to pioneer ragtime and wrote the Broadway musical Shuffle Along in 1921. On the center’s fourth floor, visitors find Eubie Live. This intimate venue highlights local artists who perform jazz, classical, neo-soul, and other genres.

Maiwand Grill

Maiwand Grill brings a taste of Afghanistan to Maryland. The chefs use local ingredients and spices and family recipes passed down for generations. Guests enjoy fast service, and the restaurant offers a warm, casual setting. Popular menu offerings include Afghan burgers, tandoori shrimp, and chicken kofta kabobs.
