An exciting destination, the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park highlights the area’s storied maritime history. It’s found inside a former oyster packing plant and is where you can enjoy fascinating exhibits and fun community events. Just a short drive from our Jessup apartments, our favorite museum highlights include:
Our Changing Waterfront
A permanent exhibition, Our Changing Waterfront, focuses on local maritime history and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. It brings the stories to life through several interactive experiences. Visitors can enjoy activities like playing a digital game or boarding a boat in a virtual reality setting.
Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse
The museum is the gateway to the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. Standing since 1875, this lighthouse stands 1.5 miles offshore in the Chesapeake Bay. It’s a beloved National Historic Landmark and is only one of 10 lighthouses in the United States to hold this designation. During the summer months, you can board a boat for an exciting docent-led tour of the lighthouse. The final tour date for the 2021 season is October 9th, and just six passengers are allowed per tour.
Climb aboard the Wilma Lee for a fun water adventure. She was built in Maryland in 1940 and is one of the last remaining Chesapeake skipjacks. In addition to offering the lighthouse tour, the Wilma Lee also provides heritage, sunset, and other cruises. They set sail April through October. Boarding starts 15 minutes before departure, and you can easily book your tour online. Private charters are also available upon request. They’re perfect for birthday parties, small weddings, and other special events.
After exploring the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park, enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner at a Jessup restaurant. You can sample ribs, pulled chicken, and more.
